About us

Our journey in natural and sustainable construction

For more than a decade, Rammed Earth Solutions Pvt. Ltd. has been working across Nepal to promote environmentally responsible construction using rammed earth and other natural materials. To date we have undertaken 89 projects representing 127 buildings.

Our experience extends from Nepal’s mountains and hills to the valleys and Terai, covering homes, schools, hospitals, community buildings, farms, yoga centres and institutional facilities.

Our major projects include Kopila Valley School in Surkhet, a large sustainable school campus built with rammed earth; Bayalpata Hospital in Achham, where rammed earth was incorporated into a major healthcare campus; Herb Nepal in Bhaktapur; the World Food Programme project in Jumla; and the ICIMOD Eco Houses in Godawari, Lalitpur.

Following the 2015 earthquake, we also contributed to school and community reconstruction projects with funding and support from University College London (UCL), UK, together with other national and international partners.

Wherever possible, we use locally available earth, stone, bamboo, timber and other natural materials, combining local knowledge with modern engineering to create safe, durable and climate-responsive buildings.

Our sustainable approach also incorporates, where appropriate, natural ventilation and daylight, rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, wastewater management, biogas and solar energy.

Our contribution goes beyond constructing buildings. By working with local communities and craftspeople, we support the development of local skills, knowledge and employment in natural construction, while encouraging greater use of locally available materials and reducing unnecessary transportation.

Where it began

The beginning of Rammed Earth Solutions Pvt. Ltd.

This two-storey rammed earth house, completed in 2012, is the first project of Rammed Earth Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and marks the beginning of Nepal’s modern rammed earth construction journey.

Built by our founder, Narayan Acharya, as a home for his own family in Godawari, Lalitpur, the project was created to demonstrate that natural building materials can produce homes that are beautiful, durable, comfortable and environmentally responsible.

Constructed using locally sourced earth and traditional craftsmanship combined with modern engineering, the house stays naturally cool in summer and warm in winter while significantly reducing the use of cement and other high-carbon materials.

This pioneering project inspired the establishment of Rammed Earth Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and has since led to the successful completion of more than 127 sustainable buildings across 89 projects in Nepal — including homes, schools, hospitals, community buildings and eco-resorts.
